Cosworth proposes push to pass for F1

3rd May 2006

Cosworth, the Northampton, UK based race engine design and manufacturing company, has proposed the introduction of a ‘push-to-pass’ engine boost system as a way of increasing overtaking in Formula One.

Cosworth already supplies such as system for the American Champ Car World Series in which it is the sole supplier of fixed specification engines. The F1 would require the use of engines with a prescribed rev limit that would be exceeded by operation of the boost system.

Cosworth's commercial director Bernand Ferguson told the Italian Autosprint magazine, "It's a spectacular and relatively simple solution: the idea is to supply, during the race, an amount of time of extra revs equal to one or two laps' worth."
