Early introduction of F1 customer car rule rejected

29th September 2006

A proposal by the managing director of the Leafield, UK based Super Aguri to bring forward the introduction of a rule allowing Formula One teams to race cars not of the own design and manufacturer to 2007 has been rejected.

According to autosport.com the proposal by Super Aguri MD Daniele Audetto received some support from other teams involved in the FIA Formula One World Championship but the unanimous support required for such a move, until 2008, was not forthcoming when the issue was put to an official vote at the meeting of the F1 Commission in Paris last week.

Audetto told autosport.com, "We are looking for other solutions. We have the full support of Honda, and we are looking for the best possible outcome for us which keeps within the existing regulations.

"We will definitely have something that makes us a lot more competitive than we have been this year."
