With support from EEMS, the Axon Caterham 2R is based on a standard 1600cc Caterham 7 modified with lightweight seating, bodywork changes and narrow low rolling-resistance tyres. The project shows that careful driving and relatively simple modifications to the car can lead to significant fuel savings. The car averaged over 131mpg at the Shell Eco Marathon in July 2006.
